* Independence Day CelebrationIndependence Day Celebration

Celebrate July 4th on the waterfront of Mystic Seaport. Activities include a noontime picnic on the Village Green, a children’s parade through the Museum’s village at 1 p.m., an 1876 Independence Day Ceremony and a concert by the Silver Cornet Band.

The Niantic Lions Club sponsor their Annual LobsterFest and Chicken BBQ July 6th and 7th. Located on the East Lyme Town Hall grounds (Pennsylvania Ave.), this annual Niantic summer tradition is sure to kick start your summer. In addition to the above Niantic Lions LobsterFest and Chicken BBQ, the 52nd Annual Juried Arts and Craft Show will also be held at the same location, on the same dates and same times. Admission to the Arts & Crafts show is free, and over 180 vendors are expected to be at the show.

Wooo hooo…we’ve been cited as New England’s BEST farmers’ market by Yankeee Magazine AND selected as one of USA Today’s “Top 10 great places to shop at a farmers market!” The Coventry Regional Farmers’ Market is like a country fair every Sunday… the old-fashioned kind, with farmers, produce, freshly baked pies, sparkling jars of preserves and pickles, handmade goods, and fiddlers. New England Travel Magazine calls ours “Connecticut’s preeminent farmers’ market.” June through October, it’s the largest and most diverse farmers’ market in Connecticut.

Enjoy free live music at Mystic Seaport every Sunday evening in the summer. the grounds are open to the public 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. for visitors to walk the grounds and take in a concert (Please note the exhibits are closed). Sailfest also showcases the 4th largest fireworks display in the Northeast, sponsored by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation

After an extensive restoration lasting more than five years, the 1841 whaleship Charles W. Morgan – a National Historic Landmark and America’s oldest commercial vessel – will be launched into the Mystic River. This will be a big event celebrating a new stage in the Morgan’s history and the beginning of preparations to take her back to sea on a ceremonial 38th voyage in the spring and summer of 2014.

* Moby Dick ReadingMoby Dick Reading

Visitors, Museum volunteers, and staff join together to read aloud Herman Melville's "Moby-Dick" in a 24-hour marathon event aboard the whaleship Charles W. Morgan. The reading begins at noon on July 31 and concludes approximately 24 hours later on the author's birthday. The first and last chapters are read by a professional actor portraying Melville himself.
